Description
Description
The Abel Rove Fly Reel is built for anglers who travel hard and fish harder. Abel engineered it around their proven cork drag system, housed in a frame that handles the knocks of long-haul travel — because when you're wading a remote flat or fishing a river far from home, there's no repair shop nearby.
Built for the water, not the display cabinet
The Rove is not a delicate trout reel. The caged frame stops the line jumping between spool and frame, and the structurally integral machining holds its tolerance through rough handling. A double pawl engagement on all sizes gives consistent, reliable retrieval. Since the drag is user-convertible, you can switch retrieve direction without tools or a trip to a dealer.
The partially ported frame keeps weight in check while producing the distinctive Abel click. Laser-engraved flies on the drag plate rotate as you retrieve — a detail that reflects the hand-finished quality of every reel that leaves Montrose, Colorado.
Choosing the right Abel Rove Fly Reel size
The Rove covers four sizes, so it suits a wide range of species and destinations. The 5-7 works well for trout and yellowfish. Step up to the 7-9 for bonefish and permit, where a smooth drag protects light tippets on long runs.
For GT and tarpon, the 9-11 delivers the stopping power those fights demand, with plenty of backing capacity. When you're targeting tuna, kingfish or other hard-running pelagics, the 11-12+ is the right call — it carries enough backing to stay in the game when a fish decides to leave the postcode.
