Dragonfly nymphs are year-round residents in South African stillwaters, taking several years to reach adulthood and representing one of the most substantial and protein-rich food sources available to trout in any dam or lake. The challenge in imitating them is that they rarely move fast; they crawl, drift and make occasional short jet-propelled bursts rather than swimming continuously. Marabou solves this perfectly — the fibres pulse, breathe and undulate with almost imperceptible water movement, giving the fly convincing life on the slowest of retrieves or on a complete static sink. Tied on a #6 hook, the Marabou Dragon is best fished near weedbeds, reed margins and submerged structure where naturals are most likely to be found.
