Description
Description
Papa Roach is Herman Botes's South African dragonfly nymph — one of the most recognised stillwater patterns the country has produced. Glass bead eyes form a head accounting for roughly a fifth of the fly's total length, anchoring a zonker strip abdomen and a thorax sheathed in feather tied tent-like — the pattern's signature tying step. Rubber legs add movement on the pause. Herman's instruction is to always fish the Papa Roach on a loop knot with a slow retrieve; the fly is designed to be watched in the water, not stripped. Tied by Flyzinc on a #2 hook, it has accounted for a large number of stillwater trout across South Africa.
