Description
Salty Clouser is SciFlies' saltwater take on one of fly fishing's most proven baitfish patterns. The original Clouser Deep Minnow was created in 1987 by Pennsylvania guide Bob Clouser for smallmouth bass on the Susquehanna River. Lefty Kreh later described it as the most important underwater fly of its era and went on to catch over 90 species on it worldwide — a record that says everything about the pattern's versatility. The Salty Clouser scales the design up to a #2/0 Grip saltwater hook, adding the weight, hook gap and material bulk needed to target the hard-fighting inshore predators of South Africa's estuaries, surf and open beaches. The dumbbell eyes keep it riding hook-up on the retrieve, reducing snags and giving the fly its characteristic dart-and-drop action.
